Your Deposit Method Picks Your Withdrawal Method

The deposit screen looks like a menu of equivalent options. It is not. The method you pick on the way in largely determines the route, and the speed, of the money on the way out, because most operators will only return funds along the path they arrived on. Work through the questions below before you pick, rather than after.

Do you intend to withdraw to the same account you are depositing from? Good. Closed-loop is the fastest and least-questioned route, and it removes an anti-money-laundering step the operator would otherwise have to resolve by hand. Continue. Stop and reconsider. Depositing from one source and withdrawing to another is the most common reason a payout gets pulled out of automated processing and into a manual queue. If you genuinely need a different destination, expect to prove ownership of both.
Is the card you are about to use a credit card? It should be declined. Credit cards are not a permitted funding method for online gambling at UK-licensed operators, and a site that accepts one is telling you something about which rules it considers itself bound by. A debit card is the ordinary path. Refunds return to the same card, and the descriptor on your statement will be the processor's name rather than the brand's. GambleDragon's explainer on how card deposits and refunds are routed covers what actually happens between the two.
Are you depositing an amount you would be unhappy to wait three days for? Then bank transfer is the wrong choice for the first deposit, not because the rail is slow but because larger first-time amounts are the ones most likely to trigger a source-of-funds check. GambleDragon has a walkthrough of where a bank transfer sits in the withdrawal queue that explains why the delay is rarely the bank's. Any rail is fine. Pick on convenience.
Have you completed identity verification yet? Then your first withdrawal has a realistic chance of clearing automatically. Do it now, before there is a balance depending on it. Verification requested at deposit time is an administrative task. Verification requested at withdrawal time is the same task performed while you are annoyed.

The rule underneath all four questions

Operators are not being obstructive when they insist the money goes back the way it came. They are following the only rule that makes the flow of funds auditable, and every exception you introduce is a manual decision somebody has to make about your account. The fewer exceptions, the faster everything is.

Which produces one piece of advice that covers most cases: pick the payment method you are happy to receive money into, and then use that method to deposit. Not the other way round.
